When Elijah Pepper opened a distillery in 1812 to produce Old Pepper Whiskey, he probably never imagined that there would still be a distillery on the same site more than 200 years later, and that Labrot Graham would purchase the distillery in 1878 and sell it to Brown Forman in 1941. The whiskey business had its ups and downs, and when the bourbon market took a nosedive, the distillery was closed and even sold in 1970. All equipment and fixtures were dismantled. When interest in single malt and bourbon began to grow again, Brown Forman bought back the distillery site, rebuilt the distillery and started from scratch, modernizing and innovating
Product Detail
Each year, Woodford Reserve releases a new version of Derby Edition by May 1, and in 2023, the series celebrate its 148th edition. The Derby Edition is bottled at a higher alcohol content of 45.2% vol. Woodford Kentucky Straight Reserve is made in the traditional way. The so-called malt syrup, the mixture of grains used in the whiskey, consists of 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malt. The corn brings a sweet and spicy flavor, while the rye brings a certain crunch. The maturing process takes place in American oak barrels.

Nose : Heavy with rich dried fruit, with hints of mint and oranges covered with a dusting of cocoa faint vanilla and tobacco spice.
Palate : Rich, chewy, rounded and smooth, with complex citrus, cinnamon and cocoa Toffee, caramel, chocolate and spice notes abound.
Finish : Silky-smooth, almost creamy at first, with a long, warm satisfying tail.
