Rhum Abuelo XV Cognac Cask
Description
Brand Story
The release of limited premium editions has long been a common practice in the rum and whisky industry, which can feature experimental aging processes or special finishes. It's no surprise, then, that Panama-based Ron Abuelo has released a number of special editions in addition to its classic portfolio.
Product Detail
The 15 Year Old Cognac Cask Finish Rum is made from sugarcane sourced from the Finca San Isidro distillery. However, this is neither molasses nor freshly squeezed juice, but a honey-like syrup made by further processing the cane juice. While the maturation of Solera in ex-bourbon barrels gives the rum its basic sweetness and spice, the final refinement in Cognac barrels creates exciting flavors of dried fruit and coffee. Napoleon is added to clarify that the Cognac brandy has been aged in casks for at least six years prior to maturation.

Tasting Notes
Nose : Aromas of vanilla and musty bourbon oak lead to sweet fruit and pound cake with hints of green and black peppercorns over bitter wood.
Palate : A sweet caramel entry leads to bold cognac wood in the complex mid-palate, with a balance between sweet fruit and dry vanilla.
Finish : Wonderfully viscous, fading into echoes of honey, green banana and flowers.
