Montecristo is, without a doubt, the most famous and universally loved brand of Habanos. The brand owes its name to the hero of the famous novel by Alexandre Dumas, “The Count of Montecristo”, reading which was highly appreciated by the torcedores (cigar rollers) of the factory in Havana, where the brand was created in 1935.
Initially, the Montecristo range was limited to five vitolas, simply designated by numbers, from 1 to 5. The brand was created in 1969 and, like Cohiba, remained an exclusive gift for diplomats and foreign dignitaries for many years. In 1998, the brand was commercialised.
