Brand Story
From José Gener to Zino Davidoff, over a hundred years of cigar history unfold. The story begins with a Catalan, formidably ambitious and as autocratic as a tsar. José Gener was 13 when he immigrated to Cuba. He was 33 when, in 1851, he joined forces with his uncle to found his first factory and create a new brand, La Escepción. Gener bought a famous vega, Hoyo de Monterrey, located in the municipality of San Juan y Martinez, whose gate can still be seen today. In 1867, he broke with his uncle and, with his brothers, founded the José Gener company and launched the Hoyo de Monterrey label, whose rings sometimes bore the customer's coat of arms. Three years later, there was another break-up: José Gener remained in sole charge, and his brothers were demoted to the rank of mere employees. For the next thirty years, José Gener was at the head of José Gener y Batet, which marketed Hoyo de Monterrey, José Gener and La Escepción to the American market. When he died in 1900, the Hoyo de Monterrey factory was the largest in Cuba.Trinidad is one of the most prestigious brands of Habanos. The brand was created in 1969 and, like Cohiba, remained an exclusive gift for diplomats and foreign dignitaries for many years. In 1998, the brand was commercialised. The Trinidad brand is aimed above all at Habanos lovers looking for absolute quality with an exclusive character.
Description
Description
This is certainly the best Hoyo de Monterrey and perhaps even one of the best Habano. Even before lighting up, a wonderful scent of clove fills your nose. The first third appears sweet and balanced, with a slightly peppery note and a touch of citrus. Woody, dried-fruit notes gradually take over, lasting right to the end without ever becoming boring.
Double Coronas meets the highest standards and is ideal for cigar beginners and experts alike. Today, it's hard to find a better value for money.Launched in 2004 and retired after eight years, this vitola left a lasting mark on cigar lovers. In 2024, Habanos S.A. revived it for the Trinidad brand’s 55th anniversary during the Habanos World Days in London. Presented in elegant boxes of three, the cigars feature three bands, including a commemorative anniversary band and the iconic “T” foot band. The medium-bodied Robusto Extra measures 6 1/8” by 50 ring gauge, with a signature pigtail cap. Hand-rolled with select Vuelta Abajo leaves, it preserves the classic, aromatic character of the original.
