Calvados AOC Domfrontais Comte Louis De Lauriston Hors d'Âge
Calvados AOC Domfrontais Comte Louis De Lauriston Hors d'Âge
Description
Brand Story
Calvados Domfrontais is produced from pears as well as cider apples. This is a centuries old tradition in the Domfront region and sets it apart from its neighbours. Over the years, Domfrontais producers have strived to have this regional characteristic recognised and regulated by the French authorities. Count Louis de Lauriston played an important role in this process and succeeded in 1997, when Calvados Domfrontais was awarded AOC status. Count Louis de Lauriston died only months before and did not live to see his efforts crowned with success.
Product Detail
Comte Louis de Lauriston Hors D'Age Calvados has lovely notes of candied fruit, vanilla and spices. Aged in small casks that are used several times, it acquires its beautiful amber colour and benefits from even ageing. It also gains in finesse and aromatic length. Its high pear content gives it a typical floral-fruity character. What's more, its minerality gives it the distinctive character that sets Domfrontais apart from other Calvados appellations. The name of the drink comes from its protected designation of origin, the department of Calvados. Only apple or pear brandies from a region of eleven precisely defined wine-growing areas in Normandy can be called Calvados.
