Brand Story
Founded in 1973 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Japanese whisky industry, the Hakushu distillery launched its first single malt in 1994. Owned by the Suntory group, Hakushu is run by Shingo Torii, grandson of the founder. His challenge: to promote Japanese whisky throughout the world.
Located in the southern Japanese Alps, the Hakushu distillery is set in the heart of a forest park criss-crossed by streams of pure water filtered by granite. In this idyllic environment of 6,000 species of trees and a multitude of birds, the distillery's whiskies enjoy the combined benefits of altitude, microclimate and crystal-clear water.
An award-winning distillery, Hakushu is a regular on the international podium.
